A better memorial
When Fiona's remains were laid to rest on a snowy day in February, no headstone was permitted. Her resting place is a lovely woodland cemetery, overlooked by the Downs, which will become a mature woodland over the years. Beneath the cherry, hawthorn and acer trees, the ground will be flat so all can walk there unhindered and enjoy its tranquillity. Only a flat granite stone marks the spot.
The more permanent memorial is where you come in. From today onward, the Fiona Fund is open for your donations here.
This lasting memorial will provide the funds behind The Fiona Littledale Award. Each year, this will be awarded to an oncology nurse who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to their further professional development. In this way, it will continue a legacy which Fiona began during her work at St George's University. In years to come, nurses funded by this award will learn more skills and gain more understanding in the treatment of cancer.
Beneath the trees, the simple stone marker will grow old as the years pass. Elsewhere, though, Fiona's legacy will touch the lives of many.
